British Cycling Yorkshire Summer Cross Series

Zepnat riders featured strongly at Sundays round of the British Cycling Yorkshire Summer Cross Series held at Ampleforth near York.

On an now uncharacteristically highly technical course Matt Denby (Zepnat.com) held off Ian Taylor (Paul Milnes Cycles to win by just over 10 seconds.

Denby and Taylor broke clear of the field early on the first lap and worked well together to open up a lead over 3 minutes on the chasers. Denby and Taylor looked evenly matched over the duration of the race but with less than half a lap to race Denby opened up a race winning gap to pip Taylor to the line.

Behind the remaining places were being fiercely fought out between Denby's team mates Steve Barnes, Joff Watson, series leader Ollie Webster and Simon Maudsley (both Crosstrax), Webster and Barnes eventually retiring due to mechanical problems. Maudsley just managing to overcome Watson to take the final podium place.

All three Zepnat riders will now start to ramp up their training to once again challenge at a National level over the Winter months.

Another cold day........

Barnetby MTB Duathlon
Another cold day

Another cold day for everyone turning out for the Barnetby MTB Duathlon this morning. A few of the regulars missing but also some enthusiastic new faces who had come for some Sunday morning fun.

A tough morning with such a cold wind and some nasty ice patches that caught a few people out. I even decided a duathlon was not enough and took a swim half way round the first lap of the bike course. I don't know how but I managed to find the deepest and coldest puddle on the course!!!

Ian Burkinshaw once again set off with the intension of posting the fastest time, however had new face Duncan Warmsley team Zepnat chasing him down hard with only a few seconds seperating them after the bike. Ian put in a hard run and came in first with Duncan close behind.

"Even though it was meant to be a training morning, but straight from the off it came a full blown race! 3 mile cross country run, 12 miles MTB off road and then 1.5 mile cross country run. The guy who just beat DW is half his age and the club itself is noted a very good triathlon club in the area, so he was up against some handy guys!"

Thanks Gary
